Capital Gains Launch, 28 February 2008

The London Child Poverty Commission's Final Report Capital Gains was launched at House of Commons Terrace on 28th February 2008 by the Commission's Chair Carey Oppenheim. Carey was joined by the Rt. Hon. Tessa Jowell MP, Minister for the Olympics and London, Nicky Gavron, Deputy Mayor of London and Cllr Merrick Cockell, Chairman of London Councils. 17 year old Elvige Pouli, a member of the Greater London Authority's Peer Outreach Team, delivered a well received opening and closing address which provided an informative and inspiring perspective on child poverty from a young Londoner's perspective.

Delegates from a wide range of organisations and agencies attended the event including MPs, central, regional and local government, housing organisations and a range of voluntary, community and charity organisations. The launch of the report received widespread media attention including television, radio and online coverage. The Commission's final report will be followed up by an Action plan for London later in the year, which will identify in more detail how the Commission will be working with a range of agencies to implement the report’s recommendations.
