Tackling London’s child poverty challenge?

This one day conference, on 10 October 2007 at London Zoo, examined a broad range of issues concerned with child poverty in the capital, and included international perspectives from eminent US speakers.

The Greater London Authority, London Councils and the London Development Agency jointly sponsored the conference. Delegates included policy makers, academics, representatives from regional and local government, grassroots community organisations, charities, housing organisations, the health sector and London’s business community.

The speakers included:

  • Cllr James Kempton, Leader, London Borough of Islington and Executive Member for Children and Young People, London Councils.
  • Professor John Hills, Director, Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion London School of Economics
  • Angela Glover Blackwell, Chief Executive of Policy-Link, United States of America
  • Rt Hon. Peter Hain, Secretary of State, Department for Work and Pensions

The Mayor's third State of London's Children Report was also launched at the conference.
