Supporting parents into training and workLondon Borough of Camden The supporting parents into training and work (SPTW) project assists low income Camden parents and carers to enter work or training or remain in work or training by ensuring that they are helped to claim all benefits, tax credits and childcare funding available. A part time project worker offers in depth benefit checks, including a casework service, to enable parents to access training and employment and to maximise their income when taking up these opportunities. The project works with existing information, advice and funding services within the community and voluntary sector and with agencies such as the Camden Early Years Service, the Children’s Information Service, Sure Start Parent Support teams, Camden Childcare Support Fund and Jobcentre Plus New Deal Advisers. The project also provides information, training and advice on benefit issues to staff working with parents. This is a one year pilot project, commencing in June 2005. In the first full quarter 23 clients were given a full benefit check and advice about benefits with 21 requiring further casework help. Thirteen clients were helped to access training, adult learning or employment and seven were helped to access childcare funding and take-up childcare provision. Full details of the project outcomes will be available after March 2006. For more information about this project please contact Sylvia Gilbert, Project Manager, Camden Welfare Rights, on 020 7974 6136. |
