Tracks towards employment services

London Borough of Islington

Tracks to Employment Services are based in Kings Cross, Finsbury Park and the City Fringe regeneration district of London.

The project involves the placement of excluded communities into local employment, training and education opportunities. Sixteen members of staff are employed to work in the centres and a number of sessional workers provide specialist services such as counselling.

The service delivers work for SRB, New Deal for Communities, Housing Associations, The London Development Agency, Job Centre Plus, Neighbourhood Renewal, UK On Line and Europe. Between June 2000 and March 2003 the project has provided the area with almost 1000 job placements and has made contact with a wide range of employers, training and educational establishments and a variety of local voluntary and community groups.

The service has adopted a community development approach to service delivery and has been successful in recruiting local people to support locally excluded communities.
