Skillsmatch

London Borough of Tower Hamlets

Skillsmatch is a London Borough of Tower Hamlets recruitment initiative based at Canary Wharf and in partnership with Canary Wharf Group. It delivers imaginative, demand driven job brokerage services to leading employers within the borough and beyond.

The success of the project is built upon the flexibility of the service and the use of targeted screening, matching and testing facilities to find the right job seeker for each position.

The main objective of the skillsmatch team is to work towards the concept that local job opportunities can be successfully filled by those living within Tower Hamlets. It is well documented that local unemployment rates are comparatively high and that there are often gaps between industry skill requirements and local candidate attainment.

Over the past year, Skillsmatch has been successful in attracting residents from every part of Tower Hamlets, particularly from the West of the borough. Of the total number of 524 residents placed into work 77 per cent were from Black and Minority communities.

Employers want job seekers who are suitably skilled, have the right attitude, are flexible, and who want to pursue a career, not just a job. Skillsmatch succeeds because these principles are central to the work of the team.

The rapid growth of the local population, as well as the continued acceleration of job opportunities within Tower Hamlets means that Skillsmatch is at the heart of the local regeneration agenda, and ideally placed to help employers and job seekers achieve significant ambitions during the next year and beyond.
